On February 28, 2025, ABTdomain recorded significant domain registration activity across various TLDs (Top-Level Domains). This report analyzes the distribution of newly registered domains by TLD and examines the market share of domain registrars for the top TLDs.

1. Overall Analysis of TLD Distribution

ABTdomain analyzed 999 TLDs and found 463 TLDs with newly registered domains, recording a total of 224,342 newly registered domains on February 28, 2025, as well as February 27 and February 26, 2025. The .com TLD continues to dominate the domain registration landscape, accounting for 54.8% of all new registrations with 122,890 domains.

The top 10 TLDs by newly registered domains volume are:

  1. .com: 122,890 domains (54.8%)
  2. .xyz: 14,472 domains (6.5%)
  3. .top: 12,900 domains (5.8%)
  4. .online: 7,747 domains (3.5%)
  5. .org: 7,719 domains (3.4%)
  6. .net: 7,223 domains (3.2%)
  7. .store: 4,834 domains (2.2%)
  8. .site: 4,500 domains (2.0%)
  9. .info: 3,702 domains (1.7%)
  10. .bond: 3,146 domains (1.4%)

These top 10 TLDs account for approximately 84.3% of all newly registered domains, with the remaining 453 TLDs collectively representing just 15.7% (35,209 domains) of the total registrations.

2. Top 5 TLDs by Registrar Distribution

a) Newly Registered .com Domains

ABTdomain recorded 122,890 newly registered .com domains on February 28, 2025. The distribution among registrars shows GoDaddy maintaining a strong lead in the .com space.

The top 10 registrars for .com domains are:

  5. Dynadot: 5,361 domains (4.4%)
  6. Tucows: 4,953 domains (4.0%)
  7. Gname: 3,230 domains (2.6%)
  8. Alibaba Cloud: 3,200 domains (2.6%)
  9. Namesrs: 3,095 domains (2.5%)
  10. Wix: 2,994 domains (2.4%)

While GoDaddy clearly leads the market, there’s significant fragmentation with “Others” accounting for 47,244 domains (38.4%), indicating many smaller registrars collectively hold a substantial market share.

b) Newly Registered .xyz Domains

ABTdomain recorded 14,472 newly registered .xyz domains, making it the second most popular TLD. The .xyz space shows a much more concentrated registrar distribution.

The top 5 registrars for .xyz domains are:

  1. GMO Internet: 7,137 domains (49.3%)
  2. Namecheap: 1,754 domains (12.1%)
  3. GoDaddy: 1,189 domains (8.2%)
  4. Alibaba Cloud: 922 domains (6.4%)
  5. Dynadot: 500 domains (3.5%)

GMO Internet dominates the .xyz space with nearly half of all registrations, creating a significantly less competitive landscape compared to .com domains. The “Others” category accounts for 2,970 domains (20.5%).

c) Newly Registered .top Domains

ABTdomain recorded 12,900 newly registered .top domains. The distribution among registrars shows significant differences from the .com and .xyz spaces.

The top 5 registrars for .top domains are:

  1. Namesilo: 3,302 domains (25.6%)
  2. Alibaba Cloud: 1,546 domains (12.0%)
  3. Gname: 1,311 domains (10.2%)
  4. godaddy.com: 1,131 domains (8.8%)
  5. GoDaddy: 1,095 domains (8.5%)

Namesilo leads in the .top TLD market, while Alibaba Cloud shows a stronger presence than in the .com space. It’s notable that GoDaddy appears twice in the list (as “godaddy.com” and “GoDaddy”), which if combined would represent 17.3% of the market. The “Others” category represents 4,515 domains (35.0%).

d) Newly Registered .online Domains

ABTdomain recorded 7,747 newly registered .online domains. The registrar distribution for this TLD shows unique patterns.

The top 5 registrars for .online domains are:

  1. Synergy Wholesale: 1,372 domains (17.7%)
  2. GoDaddy: 1,112 domains (14.4%)
  3. Reg: 740 domains (9.6%)
  4. Namecheap: 720 domains (9.3%)
  5. Hostinger: 616 domains (8.0%)

The .online TLD market appears more evenly distributed among registrars, with Synergy Wholesale leading but not dominating. The “Others” category accounts for 3,187 domains (41.1%), indicating a fragmented market with many smaller players.

e) Newly Registered .org Domains

ABTdomain recorded 7,719 newly registered .org domains. The distribution shows some familiar registrars leading in this space as well.

GoDaddy leads in the .org space, but with a much smaller market share than in .com domains. The “Others” category makes up 3,170 domains (41.1%), showing a highly diversified market.
