Industry News

ICANN Terminates TrustName Accreditation Effective September 11
ICANN terminated its agreement with Fewmoretaps OÜ, the Estonian company operating TrustName.com, after the registrar failed to cure repeated breaches involving abuse investigations and mitigation. The termination takes effect September 11, when ICANN will begin transferring the registrar’s sponsored domains to another accredited registrar. Separately, several customers alleged unauthorized transfers; those claims are not ICANN findings. ICANN, Domain Name Wire

Verisign Sets .net Increase for March 2027
Verisign will raise .net wholesale pricing from $10.91 to $12.00 on March 1, 2027. Applied to roughly 12.6 million registrations, the $1.09 increase represents about $13.7 million a year before changes in the domain base. Registrants can renew for up to ten years before the new price takes effect. Domain Name Wire

Weekly Registration Overview

.lol 13,424 1,918 12,211 1,744 +174

The .xyz wave receded to 5,646 registrations a day, about 12% of the prior week’s average. .com gained 1,235 registrations a day, .dev gained 35 and .lol gained 174. .net fell by 400 a day; the timing of its price announcement does not establish a connection.

The largest percentage gains outside the table were concentrated batches. .vip nearly doubled to 45,581, with 27,291 registrations on August 28 and five near-equal GoDaddy nameserver groups. .casa rose from 1,297 to 13,263; one date-registrar-nameserver group supplied 11,835 names, or 89% of the week. .asia increased 54% to 22,672, with 74% registered through Eranet, including a 9,999-name group on one nameserver pair. The records show concentration, not the identity or intent of the buyer.

Hot Keywords: Industry Snapshot

Four-week window: Aug 3 – Aug 30, 2026. Pure-letter .com registrations only. Selection: of the twenty highest-volume keywords over the window, the two largest weekly gainers and the three largest decliners. Source: DomainKits Trends.

Keyword Aug 3-9 Aug 10-16 Aug 17-23 Aug 24-30 W-o-W
app 3,498 3,611 3,387 3,508 +3.6%
shop 4,608 4,758 4,791 4,884 +1.9%
ai 5,942 6,673 6,777 6,064 -10.5%
care 2,762 2,600 2,820 2,563 -9.1%
solutions 3,873 3,699 3,774 3,514 -6.9%

“ai” posted the largest decline among the twenty highest-volume keywords and returned close to its early-August level. “shop” rose for a third consecutive week.

Emerging .com Keywords

Selection: at least 100 registrations in the report week and at least 100% above the prior three-week average. Pure-letter .com registrations only. Related terms are represented once; obvious single-brand template campaigns and isolated one-day dumps are excluded. Source: DomainKits Trends.

Keyword Prior 3-Week Avg Report Week vs. Avg Peak Day Share
muse 320 1,247 +290% 30%
hatch 37 235 +535% 26%
liquid 70 380 +440% 54%
damage 121 281 +132% 24%
installation 60 222 +270% 64%

The Muse increase was a concentrated batch, not a launch-week reaction. Meta released Muse Code on August 5 and Muse Glimmer on August 10 (Meta: Muse Code, Meta: Muse Glimmer). Split by channel, the weekly “muse” numbers show where the jump came from:

1,000 750 500 250 0 Aug 3-9 Muse Code out Aug 10-16 Glimmer out Aug 17-23 Aug 24-30 report week 276 249 83 59 998 Via Spaceship / Cloud Yuqu / Dominet Rest of market

The market outside those three registrars stayed flat through both releases; the jump sits in the resale channels, three weeks after the news. Within the week’s 1,247 names, 265 explicitly combined “Meta” and “Muse” in a word-list pattern: each name pairs the two terms with a different common word, none repeated across registrars, with earlier bursts of the same construction in July and early August and more registrations after the week ended. That is consistent with a coordinated resale-inventory campaign; registration records cannot identify who operates it. DomainKits NRDS

Hatch showed the clearer news response, but only in one subset. An August 24 report said Meta plans to launch a consumer AI agent under this internal codename within weeks; Meta has not announced the name. The week finished at 235 registrations against a prior three-week average of 37. The news-shaped part is the 62 names combining “Meta” and “Hatch”: zero the prior week, the first the day after the report, the peak two days later, and a Sunday wave using pricing-tier words that matched follow-up coverage. Nearly all sit on the same resale channels as the Muse batch. Most of the remaining jump was a recruiting-vocabulary batch on one nameserver pair that began before the report, so the headline total overstates the news effect. The Information

The other rows have different structures. “liquid” was a two-day template batch, 86% at Porkbun, with no identified trigger. “damage” was spread across the week and largely appeared in water-restoration service names. “installation” peaked in a one-day GoDaddy batch alongside “charger” and EV-charging terms; the two are treated as one group.

Watchlist

The August 24 report also says Meta is targeting October for a model codenamed Watermelon. “watermelon” .com registrations remain in the single digits per day, with no comparable move so far.

.lol After the Wave

.lol registrations rose about 10% to 13,424. Names containing “bid” fell from 806 to 480 and declined from 152 on Monday to 29 on Sunday. Names using Vercel DNS were essentially flat at 275 versus 274 the week before, while resale nameservers covered 100 names, under 1% of the week’s registration-record total. The data shows the “bid” imitation cycle fading without an immediate drop in the Vercel footprint; it does not establish user retention. DomainKits Trends

Premium Domain Intelligence

Notable premium .com movements this week, sourced from DomainKits Changes Monitor.

Notable Expirations

Status was rechecked against registry records at publication. When a .com name expires, the registry typically advances its listed expiration date by one year. That change alone does not mean the registrant renewed it: names still using renewal-hold or deletion nameservers remain at risk of deletion. Names returned to regular nameservers were removed from the table.

Domain Length Original Creation Year Registrar Status at Publication Detected
bvj.com 3L 1996 Network Solutions Pending renewal or deletion Aug 30
automaven.com 9L 1996 GoDaddy Expired, on renewal-hold nameservers Aug 27
galibi.com 6L 1997 Isimtescil Redemption period Aug 25
wetstream.com 9L 1997 Tucows Expired, on renewal-hold nameservers Aug 30
yogatools.com 9L 1997 Tucows Expired, on renewal-hold nameservers Aug 30

Notable Drop-Catches

Domain Original Creation Year Caught By Date
cirobe.com 1998 Dynadot Aug 28
adeptstore.com 1999 DropCatch Aug 30
sportdress.com 2000 DropCatch Aug 28
stayfunny.com 2002 Iconicnames Aug 29
brandtool.com 2003 DanCue Aug 25

bvj.com is the only three-letter name in the expiration list and can still be renewed by its registrant. galibi.com is further along, in the redemption period.

Among names followed from earlier reports, winebar.com was renewed: its expiration moved to 2028 and its DNS returned to a hosting provider. lifepower.com remains in redemption. bloodroot.com, artfamily.com, justspace.com, biotime.com, snapdog.com and allmall.com remain on hold or parking nameservers and are still recoverable. DomainKits Changes Monitor tracks these status changes before names reach public auction.

Weekly Insight

The two Meta-linked terms carried different evidence. Muse rose three weeks after the product releases and largely through three registrars, which points to bulk inventory activity rather than a broad launch response. Explicit Meta-Hatch combinations appeared immediately after renewed reporting and almost all used resale nameservers, making the news link much stronger. Neither pattern demonstrates end-user demand. DomainKits NRDS

The extension totals tell a similar story. Gains in .vip, .casa and .asia came from concentrated batches, while .lol rose 10% even as “bid” names declined and its Vercel-DNS count stayed flat. Weekly totals show direction; registrar, date and nameserver concentration show the structure behind the change. DomainKits Trends
