This week in domain intelligence:
- An AI-related domain led this week’s reported sales.
- Registration trends were mixed across major extensions, with one continuing to run well above its earlier-summer baseline.
- A widely covered developer release was followed within a day by a registration wave across two keywords, while several coordinated campaigns with no shared infrastructure ran in regulated service categories.
- ICANN’s newest generic top-level domain application round closed this week, alongside a large-scale marketplace liquidation event.
Domain Trading Intelligence
Top Sales Reported This Week
Compiled from domain sales publicly reported from August 10 to August 16, 2026. A selection of notable disclosed transactions, not a complete record.
| # | Domain | Price | Platform | Reported Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | team.ai | $136,500 | Namecheap | Aug 11 |
| 2 | tare.ai | $40,000 | Afternic | Aug 11 |
| 3 | insure.ag | $24,888 | Afternic | Aug 15 |
| 4 | swoof.com | $23,988 | Afternic | Aug 11 |
| 5 | upguard.ai | $20,000 | Spaceship | Aug 12 |
Two four-letter .ai names led the week: team.ai at $136,500, an auction close on Namecheap not yet confirmed as a completed transaction, and tare.ai at $40,000 on Afternic. insure.ag was the only entry outside .ai and .com. The highest .com sale, swoof.com at $23,988 on Afternic, is a coined string that trades on sound rather than meaning.

GoDaddy Auctions ran its first liquidation auction: roughly 2,099 portfolio domains, mostly .com, with bidding open August 11 through staggered closes on August 13. GoDaddy
Signal: The August 12 deadline is the item with lasting consequence. The GoDaddy event is a one-time portfolio clearance rather than a recurring format at this stage.

| TLD | Aug 10-16 Total | Daily Avg | Aug 3-9 Total | Daily Avg | Daily Avg Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| .com | 948,397 | 135,485 | 931,914 | 133,131 | +2,354 |
| .net | 60,189 | 8,598 | 63,332 | 9,047 | -449 |
| .org | 60,324 | 8,618 | 60,841 | 8,692 | -74 |
| .app | 27,024 | 3,861 | 28,066 | 4,009 | -148 |
| .dev | 7,387 | 1,055 | 7,792 | 1,113 | -58 |
| .xyz | 421,870 | 60,267 | 386,199 | 55,171 | +5,096 |
.com added roughly 2,350 registrations per day, with weekday counts between 137,000 and 152,000. .net and .org each eased slightly. .xyz held the elevated level it jumped to on August 4, a pattern consistent with promotion-driven bulk registration.
.app and .dev, the two developer extensions, both slowed this week rather than grew; the pair stays on watch as a read on developer-side naming demand.
Hot Keywords: Industry Snapshot
Four-week window: Jul 20 – Aug 16, 2026. Pure-letter .com registrations only. Selection: of the twenty highest-volume keywords over the window, the two largest weekly gainers and the three largest decliners, each measured against the immediately preceding week. Source: DomainKits Trends, natural Monday-Sunday weeks.
| Keyword | Jul 20-26 | Jul 27-Aug 2 | Aug 3-9 | Aug 10-16 | W-o-W |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| life | 2,228 | 2,157 | 2,286 | 2,934 | +28.3% |
| try | 2,506 | 2,234 | 2,292 | 2,872 | +25.3% |
| hub | 3,631 | 3,491 | 3,741 | 3,138 | -16.1% |
| care | 2,648 | 2,632 | 2,761 | 2,600 | -5.8% |
| solutions | 3,869 | 3,940 | 3,872 | 3,699 | -4.5% |
- “Hub” posted the largest decline among the twenty highest-volume keywords, down 16.1% after three weeks in the 3,490-3,740 range.
- “Life” and “try” both broke out of a three-week holding pattern, each gaining more than 25% in a single week; neither shows a concentration pattern consistent with a single registration campaign.
- “AI,” watched since last week for a sustained decline, reversed course: 5,940 to 6,670, its highest weekly count in the current window. The watch is closed.
Emerging .com Keywords
Four-week window: Jul 20 – Aug 16, 2026. Pure-letter .com registrations only. Selection criteria: at least 100 registrations in the report week and a report-week count at least 200% above the mean of the prior three weeks. The five below are the largest by report-week volume among terms meeting both; the surge threshold was raised from last week’s 100% to 200% as the number of qualifying terms grew. Source: DomainKits Trends, natural Monday-Sunday weeks.
| Keyword | Prior 3-Week Avg | Report Week | vs. Avg | Peak Day Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| debt | 96 | 403 | +321% | 42% |
| abogado | 32 | 360 | +1025% | 48% |
| slota | 6 | 271 | +4417% | 32% |
| immigration | 78 | 234 | +200% | 78% |
| harness | 61 | 210 | +244% | 41% |
Registration-level inspection found three of the five to be distinct registration campaigns:
| Keyword | Pulse Days | Share on Pulse | Registrar | Naming Template |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| debt | Aug 11-12 | 337 of 403 (84%) | Spaceship | lifeafterdebt + business term |
| abogado | Aug 12-13 | 320 of 360 (89%) | Cloudflare | city or state + abogado + practice area |
| immigration | Aug 16 | 182 of 234 (78%) | GoDaddy | state + immigration + service term |
The two geographic grids, “abogado” and “immigration,” pair a state or city with a service term (“californiaabogadoaccidente.com,” “coloradoimmigrationhelp.com”), a shape consistent with geographically segmented lead generation. “Debt” is a coordinated phrase-based campaign: around three hundred variations on a single phrase, aimed at small-business and merchant cash advance lending (“lifeafterdebtmca.com”).
“Slota” remains unresolved. One registrar holds roughly 99% of its registrations, and the names use at least two Cloudflare nameserver pairs active on the same days; since Cloudflare favors, but does not guarantee, nameserver consistency within an account, public DNS data cannot establish whether one or several parties are involved. No catalyst dated to the week was found; it carries to next week.
“Harness” has a dated catalyst: on August 13, DeepSeek published DeepSeek Harness, an open-source agent runtime whose command-line tool is named “dsh.” VentureBeat South China Morning Post Both words surged within a day: “harness” from around 14 registrations a day to 87 at peak, “dsh” from near zero to 41 on the release date itself. The wave spreads across many registrars and nameservers, more consistent with a broad market reaction than a single bulk run, though common ownership cannot be excluded; roughly a third of the “dsh” names went straight to for-sale nameservers.
Beyond the top five, ten more terms cleared both thresholds, led by “accidente” (163, +6886%), part of the “abogado” grid, and “dsh” (155, +1760%), part of the same release response. The rest, “starting” (115, +1227%) among them, were not individually inspected and their causes are unidentified.
Signal: Three coordinated campaigns ran in regulated service categories in one week on three different registrars, with no infrastructure evidence connecting them. The clustering is in the category, not the infrastructure.
Registration data reflects observed patterns in newly registered domain names and does not constitute investment advice. Individual registrant intent cannot be confirmed from registration data alone.
Premium Domain Intelligence
Notable premium .com movements this week, sourced from DomainKits Changes Monitor. Status verified against registry records at publication date; names renewed or recovered since detection have been removed.
Notable Expirations
5-8 Letter .com
| Domain | Original Creation Year | Registrar | Status at Publication | Detected |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| biotime.com | 1996 | Network Solutions | Pending renewal or deletion | Aug 14 |
| allmall.com | 1995 | PublicDomainRegistry | Expired, on parking nameservers | Aug 16 |
| snapdog.com | 1998 | Network Solutions | Pending renewal or deletion | Aug 15 |
| kirali.com | 2004 | TurnCommerce | Expired, on expiry nameservers | Aug 13 |
| niceclub.com | 2018 | DropCatch.com 1019 LLC | Expired, on expiry nameservers | Aug 12 |
New Registrations (Drop-Catches)
Registry records for this week’s catches show creation dates matching the catch date, indicating full deletion before re-registration rather than a same-owner transfer; the original creation years are no longer carried in the records, so that column is absent this week.
| Domain | Caught By | Date |
|---|---|---|
| wowmusic.com | Sav.com | Aug 16 |
| onsafe.com | Sav.com | Aug 12 |
| tigefa.com | SnapNames | Aug 16 |
| forgelux.com | DropCatch | Aug 15 |
| tidova.com | SnapNames | Aug 12 |
Signal: The week’s one three-letter detection, ssj.com, had already left the expiry-holding state by publication; its registration now runs to 2027 and the name is delegated to marketplace nameservers. biotime.com and snapdog.com remain in the renewal-or-deletion stage as of publication and are still renewable by their registrants. DomainKits Changes Monitor tracks premium domain status changes as they happen, ahead of public auction listings.
Weekly Insight
Sales: team.ai ($136,500, auction result) and tare.ai ($40,000) led reported results; both are worth watching for whether a project launches on them.
Registrations: .com added roughly 2,350 a day on the prior week while .net, .org, .app and .dev eased; the number to check next week is whether .xyz holds its elevated level a third week.
Keywords: “slota” (one registrar, several nameserver pairs, unresolved) and the “harness”/”dsh” wave (build or resale, too early to tell) carry to next week; the three campaigns are documented findings, not watches.
Expirations: biotime.com (1996) and snapdog.com (1998) are still renewable in the renewal-or-deletion stage; movement toward deletion is the change to watch.
Method Notes
- Prior-week figures reflect backfilled data and differ from the Aug 3-9 issue (.com weekly total: 931,229 became 931,914).
- Last week’s expirations: cils.com, gameone.com, bitcube.com unchanged (pending renewal or deletion); gosee.com unchanged (parking). datalist.com has left expiry nameservers, now on Cloudflare, same registrar.
- Keyword counts are string matches, not topic labels: “harness” includes product names (wireharnessstudio.com, topdogharness.com), “dsh” matches inside unrelated strings (591dsh.com). Attributions rest on inspection and timing, not counts.
- Nameserver evidence varies by provider: Cloudflare favors, but does not guarantee, consistent nameserver pairs within an account, so a shared pair suggests one account without proving it, and multiple pairs do not prove multiple accounts. Registrar defaults are shared across the whole customer base and identify nothing; campaigns on defaults rest on naming templates and timestamps.
