Telegram’s t.me Domain Suspended at Registry Level Over OFAC Compliance
On July 13, Montenegro’s .me registry placed t.me, Telegram’s primary short-link domain, on serverHold status, removing it from global DNS. The registry cited OFAC compliance as the reason, reportedly triggered by content on a URL linked to a sanctioned entity. The suspension broke every t.me link for users, groups, and channels worldwide while the core messaging platform remained functional. Users could work around the outage by substituting “telegram.me” in their URLs. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov publicly requested the registry’s help in resolving the situation. Domain Name Wire

.dot gTLD Enters Sunrise Phase
Dish DBS launched the sunrise period for .dot on July 21, with general availability scheduled for November 2. The extension is positioned for software developers, indie builders, and technical brands. This is Dish’s second gTLD launch of 2026 after .latino went to general availability in June. The sunrise runs through October 19 with a 12-day early access period following. Domain Incite

Signal: The t.me suspension is the second registry-level enforcement action in two weeks, following the Texas Verisign order covered in last week’s report. Both cases reached the registry layer, bypassing registrants and registrars. For domain holders, the concentration risk of routing critical infrastructure through a single domain is now a demonstrated, not theoretical, vulnerability.

Weekly Registration Overview

New domain registrations for the week of July 13 to July 19, 2026. Source: DomainKits Trends.

TLD Jul 13-19 Total Daily Avg Jul 6-12 Total Daily Avg Change
.com 939,445 134,206 943,527 134,790 -4,082 (-0.4%)
.net 61,816 8,831 61,702 8,815 +114 (+0.2%)
.org 58,752 8,393 62,449 8,921 -3,697 (-5.9%)
.xyz 73,928 10,561 374,520 53,503 -300,592 (-80.3%)

.com registrations were essentially flat at 939K, within 0.4% of the prior week. The weekday pattern followed typical distribution: Monday through Wednesday each exceeded 146K, Thursday dipped to 133K, and weekend volumes dropped to 98-104K. This consistency, with daily averages holding near 134K for three consecutive weeks, suggests stable organic demand independent of the bulk waves that have inflated other TLDs.

.xyz volumes collapsed 80.3% as the bulk registration campaign that peaked during July 6-12 (daily volumes of 42-72K) largely subsided. By mid-week, .xyz daily counts had fallen to 5-7K, closer to the extension’s baseline before the wave began in late June. The 7-day moving average dropped from 53,503 to 10,562 over the course of the week. This is the expected decay pattern following programmatic bulk registration activity.

.org declined 5.9%, with the drop concentrated on Friday through Sunday (6.3-5.5K versus 7-11K on weekdays). .net was flat.

Emerging .com Keywords

Keyword W3 → W4 W-o-W Pattern
terbaik 4 → 268 +6,600% Single operator, Indonesian gambling SEO cluster.
mpo 25 → 241 +864% Same cluster, online slot brand prefix.
accident 111 → 237 +114% Single operator, US legal SEO cluster.

NRDS domain-level inspection of the notable patterns:

Signal: Both emerging clusters this week are single-operator campaigns, not distributed market interest. The Indonesian gambling wave is a bulk SEO network build; the US legal wave appears to be speculative hoarding in response to a documented shift in how search engines surface legal-services queries. Neither represents organic registration demand from multiple independent parties.
